Maia Yoshida

I'm a STEM Education MA student at King's College London and a Thouron Scholar. I graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Biology from the University of Pennsylvania in 2018 (minoring in Fine Arts) and recieved of the Neysa Cristol Adams Prize in Biology. After graduation, I worked in a bioengineering lab at UCSF, where in addition to cellular engineering research, I led outreach initiatives for the lab, to better engage the public with current scientific research.

As a scientist, artist, and educator, I believe that interdisciplinary approaches to science learning are valuable in nurturing creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking, in K-12 learning environments, and boosting student engagement with science. I will explore these ideas during my MA studies so that I may lead future efforts to change we learn about and think about science from an early age in the classroom and out.

Outside of Kings College, I've am also currently involved with the Institue of Imagination, the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, and the Biodesign Challenge. Prior to being a researcher, I have also been an Artist In Residence at EpiBone, a Teaching Assitant at the Penn Alexander School, and a Researcher / TA at UPenn.
